Thank you to the 41 people who took the time to respond to my question, which was: Faculty discussion over signs and proper/improper use of apostrophe: Which is correct? 1. Southwestern Teachers Association 2. Southwestern Teachers' Association 3. Southwestern Teacher's Association For an association comprised of 150 teachers employed by Southwestern school district? The overwhelming majority favored Choice # 2 because of the plural possessive; # 1 was preferred (and actually used by many associations) because of the simplicity of having no apostrophe for people to mess up. Choice #3 was (obviously) not in the running. Several people listed the OWL at Purdue, Eats, Shoots & Leaves, WilsonWeb's association file, and other resources. The signs in my mailbox this morning are using the second one, and when I checked our association's print materials, that's what's on record. Again thanks to all.
