While ALA has a generalized list of most-banned books in libraries in general, you might be interested to know that there is a very scientific assessment of books banned or challenged in Texas schools. The ACLU of Texas has collected this information on an annual basis for 11 years. This year's report was released today, and is available for free on the Union's website: http://www.aclutx.org/projects/bannedbooks.php Regardless of your personal opinion of the political positions of the ACLU, this is a scientifically conducted survey. I invite you to see what items are most challenged, and why. There is an excellent interview with Newbery winner Susan Patron included in the report. Carol Simpson, Ed.D. Assoc. Professor (mod. svc.)
