Perhaps this idea might help with providing books for students who can't afford them. Last year for our book fair, we had students who wanted to fill out a "Wish List" slip, with the title and price of a book they wish they could get, but didn't have the money for. Throughout the fair, I send out emails with the latest wishes, and teachers loved to fulfill them! For the most part, it's only kids who really can't afford them who fill out the slips - about 50 total. I was amazed at how the teachers wanted to pitch in for this, most anonymously. Many students were touched by the gifts, and we were able to help out those who couldn't afford to buy from the fair. The few that weren't granted, I was able to fill through the extra books the library received from the fair (we just told the kids that it was an anonymous gift). We are a high school - I can only imagine the enthusiasm that wishes from elementary school kids would generate from the staff! Tish Carpinelli, Media Specialist Lower Cape May Regional H.S.
