Hello LM_NETters,

Traveling from Florida to the beautiful state of Maine (now I know why they
boast Vacationland on their license plates) was very interesting for sure.
Now when I'm stressed I just think about the view on top of Cadillac
Mountain at Arcadia National Park.
On the return trip I attended my first ALA conference in Washington, DC. I
knew it would be big and I knew there would be authors but I didn't realize
there would be so many and that I could speak with them so easily. I'm glad
I brought my camera since pictures of me and Christopher Paul Curtis, Markus
Zusak and Sharon Draper, just to mention a few, are a huge hit with our
students.
A highlight while in DC was to participate in the Library Day on the hill.
I was one of many librarians sporting a red t-shirt that stated "SUPPORT
LIBRARIES". I walked the halls of the Rayburn building until I found my
representatives from Florida. I was able to speak to them about supporting
the SKILLS ACT. My students are truly interested when I explain my
experiences in Washington D.C. Of course I loved The Library of Congress
too.
Next time I need to attend the AASL conference to focus on school libraries.
