Hi Everyone, On August 28 I asked the group: "Do any of you have lists of the books in the 3-6 grade guided reading collections at your schools? And, if so, would you be willing to share those titles?" Below are the 3 responses I received. Thank you! _________________________________________ These books are kept in our district resource centre. If you search at: http://drc.sd85.bc.ca/4dcgi/gen_2002/Lang=Def under the subject tab using the search term 'reading zone' you will find our collection. They are levelled using the Fountas and Pinnell system. _________________________________________ Donna, here's a link to my catalog. As you go through the teacher resource list, the guided reader sets are clearly marked. We bought ours from Scholastic. Fiction, non-fiction, and early readers are all classroom novels and the ones marked Kids' Discover are the magazine sets I've bought on various topics. Hope this helps. http://library.saisd.org * Click on Lamar Elementary * Click on catalog. * From left column, click on Resource Lists * Click on Public Lists from top tabs * Click on Teacher Resource List then click on the view button ___________________________________________ Here is a list of the class sets that we have DRA Levels 38-44+. I am attaching it as an excel file. Let me know if you get it. (If you would like the Excel file mentioned, please let me know, and I will email it to you, since attachments can't be sent through the listserv) ____________________________________________ ____________________________________________ Here is a suggestion about finding titles using Scholastic, updated from info contributed by Christine Hatami a couple of years ago: Log on to Scholastic.com Scroll down to the Educational Materials section. Click on Scholastic Reading Counts! Click on Shop Books and Quizzes in e-Catalog Search Collections. Put in Interest Level and Category. You will be rewarded with hundreds of possible categories. Once you see a title in which you're interested, you can get a summary, interest and reading level, cost per copy, etc. You do not need to subscribe to Reading Counts to use this site. I found only a few titles that appealed to me in any given category, but it is a good place to start. I was disappointed that there are so many older fiction titles, though, as I'm more interested in recent titles. Also, I'm looking back through the past CA Young Reader Medal intermediate titles (since students nominate the books through their teachers and/or librarians) for reading levels to see how many actually fit the wanted parameters. If you have awards in your state that are basically student driven, that would be a good place to start searching for books students would enjoy reading. Hope this information is helpful.
