Clear DayHi everyone,

Thanks so much for your suggestions! I received about as many requests for a hit
as I did answers. Here is my original post and the suggestions follow. If I
receive any more ideas I will post a second HIT.

I am working on a reading endorsement and need to do a presentation on the value of
interactive reading. If any of you have any favorite interactive reading picture
books you use for KINDERGARTEN -FIRST GRADE only I would appreciate hearing from
you. I would like to create a list of such titles and would definitely post a hit
if there is interest. Thanks so much for your help and have a super day!

Our all time favorite is Robert Munsch books and the best by far is Mortimer. We
do "Mortimer be quiet" in voices, stomping up the steps with our hands pounding on
the floor, opening the door (twist the handle and creak open) and close the door
(BAM!) His books are GREAT for interactive reading....But Mortimer is by far their
favorite and they remember it from year to year....

Hi, Look for simple songs or fingerplays that have been made into books
such as The Wheels on the Bus, Over in the Meadow, there is a new one
called Puff the Magic Dragon - I'm a horrible singer, but I can do these
simple tunes and the kids sing along. Also, books with math concepts
are great for interactive reading

I use "Shoes from grandpa" by Mem fox and hand out all the different items of
clothing to the students and have them say the words along with me as they reapeat

One book that I use every year and the kids love is Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do
You See. I have adapted it for a unit on colors. The video I made of it using
Photo Story 3 is on our school website http://icc.k12.ar.us Elementary Library
Media Center Teacher Center Thematic Units Colors

When I was teaching first grade we would do "Rosen, Michael,
We're going on a bear hunt / retold by Michael Rosen ; illustrated by Helen
Oxenbury.-- 1st ed.-- New York : Margaret K. McElderry Books, c1989.

The Pigeon books by Mo Willems

Knuffle Bunny by Mo Willems

The book I like best
The Woman Who was not afraid of anything

I like the Skippy Jon Jones books for primary.. Each story has a song where
the kids clap.

Mr Wiggles, Chrysanthemum, or any Kevin Henkes E books, Miss
Bindergarten, Eric Carle books, If you give a . . . Numeroff books, I
still read the library Dragon to them as well with lots of voice changes
and overt actions!

I can't recall the title, but when I was
Librarian-Media Specialist @ John O. Arnn School near
Tokyo, I once video-taped a kindergarten teacher using
a BIG BOOK with a hen character named Hattie. It had
a ?/ans. format and the answer was always, "Hattie
did!" At the time, our Prin.'s name was Hattie and
that book was a gem. Sorry I can't be more precise
but it was decades ago. I'll bet your kids would love
this book. Good luck.
