Thank you to everyone who responded. I did find out that what the teachers had
planned to do was to buy one stuff animal for the class and then keep this animal
as the new "class pet". The reason is that last year, the administration banned
any live animals from being kept as classroom pets except for fish and/or
caterpillars. That is why several of them are looking into using Webkinz stuffed
animals as an alternative.
The summary of the responses:
No one knew of any school using webkinz as a class project.
A few people stated that their child used the site and that it was a good
introduction into money management and responsibility. They also liked the chat
room features with all the safety bells and whistles.
The majority of the people responded stated that the games were not educational and
that they didn't like the promotional aspect tied to the website. It basically was
too commercial for their taste.
One person stated that they would be very upset if their classroom teacher used
this site as they felt overwhelmed by the commercialization.
