Hi,
Not all graphic novels are fiction.
Persopolis, Maus, are famous examples of nonfiction GN titles. In addition there
are recent titles like Houdini the Handcuff King, Malcolm X, Nat Turner: Revolution
that are clearly nonfiction titles in GN format.
It's important to remember that graphic novels are not a genre, but a format.
As I responded to the original poster: I pull out all my GNs into a separate
section. I indicate this with a sticker on the book and use a call number prefix
(852k) of GN.

I have also wondered why they are not in fiction...

Where are librarians putting graphic novels. Most of the books come pre
cataloged in the 741.5 category. However, as the number of graphic
novels grows exponentially, that area of the "non-fiction" section is
being over run. I predict that history is going to repeat itself and we
will eventually be pulling these books and re-cataloging them into the
fiction. Logically, to the children, they are FICTION. Then why aren't
they in the fiction shelves?

Your thoughts please!
