[LM_NET] OT: Pittsburgh members

I appreciate the collective indulgence for a mother's request:

My daughter just accepted a job in Pittsburgh and now must begin the
search for an apt. She will be working in the Oakland area and
obviously wants to keep commute time to a minimum. Any good areas to
secure an apt for about $700/month? What about areas to avoid, i.e.,
not safe for young women?  She has seen some on the North Shore and
East Liberty - any thoughts?
