I had an interesting day when we encountered anatomically correct art on the
internet:
A fourth grade class had been reading Konigsburg's From the mixed-up files of Mrs.
Basil E. Frankweiler. The art class simulated Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel
experience, drawing on paper taped underneath the tables. I took them into the
computer lab to view the site for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and instructed
everyone to look at some of the works by Michelangelo. Soon, some students were
giggling over a 3-screen spread of the statue, David.

Regretting that I had never taken an art history class, I discussed the difficulty
of chiseling marble to make a statue, as well as the effort and talent required to
achieve such a likeness. I also implied that many artists created naked bodies in
those days, and that it was just fine. Meanwhile I was saying to myself, Please
don't go home and tell your parents we were looking at naked men on the internet.

It was seven years ago, and I never heard a word of complaint.
