I agree! There are so many conferences that are held during the
school year when things are really hectic and time-off isn't always an
option. I LOVE the AASL conferences that are held, but I know that if
I go to one in the middle of the year, then I will have to give up a
technology conference or a state library conference later in the
spring. While the other ALA conferences are important, I do agree
that the conference that provides me with the most inspiration to work
on new ideas, new projects, or new concepts is the AASL conferences.
They meet my specific needs SO well...and yet, only a certain few are
often allowed to attend (because I've missed great friends that I know
SHOULD be there when I've attended...but couldn't come because of
their work assignments / teaching).

We're free during the summer and by July, I'm refreshed and ready to
get started again. I'd much rather spend my time getting new ideas to
take back to school in the fall than worrying about what I'll face
when I leave in the middle of the second month of school because I
left for a conference. The timing of this conference just doesn't
work well for some of us in "the real world" (i.e., the trenches) of
school librarianship.

Just a thought.
