Hi this is my first post so excuse me for any mistakes in posting... We recently purchased an HP wide format printer for poster making and I've been put in charge of it. Can anyone tell me some rules they have set up for use? Also, what experiences you've had with this type of printer? Thanks! We have already tutored math and reading, and are getting ready to tutor for science. Rather than pulling those students out of their specials times for tutoring (thus forcing them to miss some of the subjects that they tend to actually enjoy while at school), we have decided to take a different approach for the science "tutoring". Each specials teacher is going to go cross-curricular and add a science component to their regular lessons. So, the music teacher is talking about sound waves, the drama teacher is having them act out the natural cycles, they are drawing the water cycle in art, etc... I have been thinking about doing a read-aloud for these students leading up to this last test, because they are already nearly brain-dead at this point and need to relax. I have been charged with covering adaptation and survival techniques. I would like to read some sort of fiction to them, but have no idea what books might fit this guideline. I know that when I personally come across a fact in a novel that I'm reading for pleasure, I actually tend to file that information away in my "neat-o" part of the brain, to be pulled out for certification exams and games of Trivial Pursuit. I'm hoping this less traditional approach might do the same for these students. Anyone got any suggestions of books? Even if I don't have something in my library, this is something that I could justify purchasing for my personal library. Thanks for the assistance! All staff and students use gmail as our main communication tool. For adults, I found the photo app (Picasa) was the gateway drug to get them all hooked on google. Then I moved onto the deeper parts like Google docs and Google groups - true collaboration. When using Google docs, there has to be a real reason - doing a presentation on it doesn't seem to work (I have tried many times). I introduced it when we needed live documents for "Accreditation" or "Integrated units". Once they understand the beauty of real-time documents and "who entered what when", they will never again send an attached word document. By the way, Google Talk (separate app - not the embedded in gmail app) is the gateway drug for middle school students. They love the ability to drag and drop music files (building up their itunes libraries) and photos straight into it while they are chatting.
