I was following the discussion about conferences, the timing of and the
sessions or strands offered. My thoughts on a quiet Saturday morning as I
begin our spring break.

I have attended AASL conferences in the fall (all on my own funding but I
have been
supported by not having to use annual leave). I also attend NECC conferences
in the summer, again on my own funding. In the past I have attended ALA in
the summer but when not recently. My calendar and personal funds just don't
stretch far enough for ALA. Unfortunately NECC and ALA often coincide.
Summer and fall conferences each have their benefits and problems.

Having ALA in the fall, I find to be helpful. Yes it is hard to get away
from school to attend. But going in the fall lets me come back to my school
with ideas to implement right away. I also bring back goodies for staff and
students, even some new hot topic books.

NECC is the summer is also helpful. Here the challenge is not to forget what
I learned and begin implementing as I plan for the new school year. I also
bring back goodies to hand out at early before school training sessions.

ALA has the AASL division to focus on school library media specialists and
has sessions at the conference for members. ISTE also has a group, called
SIGMS. At their NECC conference they have sessions devoted to school library
programs.

Someone already posted a link to the sessions at ALA focused on AASL
members.

I wish and hope that all of you can be at a conference this summer. Let's
look out for eachother.
I will be at NECC wearing my LM_NET pin.
