[LM_NET] Full service library

I'm sure all of us get many requests throughout the day that have  
little to do with what we expected as novice librarians.  We have been  
asked to change projector bulbs; loan out extension cords, pencils, or  
chairs; find phone numbers for XX; or conduct an interest survey about  
YY.  I always tell people when they make the odd request that we are a  
full service library and will do our best to assist them.

However, like many of you, we have those colleagues who take advantage  
of our good nature.  Here again LM_NET has come to our aid.  I am  
always telling the staff what a wonderful group you are and have  
gotten good direction for many of them through this listserv.  Friday  
at lunch I decided to talk about the interesting thread concerning  
last minute requests.  I cited some examples you all have given.  Then  
I reminded them that a new 9 weeks would be beginning and I'd love to  
work with them on research projects.   Hmmm... wonder if they got the  
hint  :)
