I recommend Moses Goes to a Concert by Isaac Millman (unfortunately, out of print!) or any of the sequels--Moses Goes to School or Moses Goes to the Circus. The main character is a deaf child, whose "handicap" is not a deterrent to enjoying the good things that life has to offer.
