How about a wonderful website that does the job?  The Purdue Online Writing Lab
(OWL) is a WEALTH of writing information.  http://owl.english.purdue.edu
Another trick I've used is to google "how to write  a research paper."  Lots of
smart folks have already put a lot of good stuff out there for all of us to use.

Subject: Target: HS "How-to-write-a-research-paper" pamphlet

Hi folks - Our English department would like to find a good current MLA
based pamphlet to hand out to our students on writing a research paper. Does
anyone know of any really good ones? We can't spend a lot of money and are
hoping that "our collective brain" knows of a possibility that we could use.
Please send any suggestions to me directly. Thanks very much!
