[LM_NET] GEN: State Book Award programs

The William Allen White Award is the oldest children's choice award of its type and 
continues to be child-centered.  Since 1952, children in elementary and middle 
school have been selecting their favorite book (it's been two books since 2000) 
knowing that the winning author will visit their state and accept the award 
presented to them by a representative child.
   
  Over the years we've had a couple of authors unable to attend the awards ceremony 
for reasons ranging from fog to a newborn child to death.  However, this year we've 
had one of our winning authors cancel after ticket sales and ceremony plans are 
well underway.
   
  I am guessing this happens in other states too.  Our celebration is October 4 and 
will include a morning full of activities for kids as well as autographing session 
with the one winning author attending and the awards ceremony after lunch.  We'll 
have some disappointed kids and teachers though.  Any ideas for things we can add 
this year?
