For those who wanted more info about the barcode scanners
we bought to work with Follett:

We have purchased the ImageTeam Model 3800lr. It is a
HandHeld brand scanner, also known as HHP. It is
available from many distributors. You have to shop for a good price.
My district (very big) bought a huge lot of
them and our discounted price is something like $136 and a
stand for $15. This not a substitute for a Panther which
does cost about $1800. This is the scanner you would use
at your circ desk.

If you are looking for something to help with inventory,
there is a bluetooth barcode scanner called a Baracode
Roadrunner that costs less than $600. You plug a "dongle"
into a usb port and set your Destiny to the Inventory page
where you scan in barcodes. Then go and scan and the
numbers are sent to the computer via bluetooth and right
into the computer. The scanner doesn't store the
barcodes--it send the barcode directly to the computer.
I haven't used it much since I am in the district offices,
but some of our librarians swear by it. The one time I
did use it, it had trouble with the follett classic
barcode (with the T at the front), but there is probably a
quick fix that I don't know about. Again, you have to shop around for a good price.
