I bought my Shelf Elf supplies from Upstart, and this is my second year with my own
Shelf Elf program.

I use it with grades 1-3.  Each class has a weekly check out time, and after their
visit we check the shelves.  We are always reminding them to help the Shelf Elf
with good book care, neat shelves, quiet voices and feet.  Each Monday we have our
Cougar Call (school assembly) and I award two Shelf Elf trophies to the best
classes.  I print my Weekly Checkout calendar for each week, and we rate class
performance 1-5 stars.  Most classes earn 4-5 stars so I note who wins each week
and try to share the wealth during the year.  Students really respond well, and the
first week of school they all asked if Skoob, the shelf elf was back from vacation
yet.  I have a home for him in the library, he hides on the shelves, and we even
have a mailbox where students can leave letters.

It's a fun easy program to promote responsibility.  Sadly, right now my worst shelf
behavior comes from 6th grade.

Subject: ELEM: can't find Shelf Elf award

Sometime list year I remember reading about someone giving a Shelf
Elf Award to a class if the shelves looked neat at the end of their
library period.  I searched "Shelf Elf" in the archives.  No mention.
Only word puzzles and library aides.  Does anyone remember this?
