Thanks so much for all the help! I heard from more than 50 people and 17 states, with a surprising number of suggestions for such a small request! I hope I haven't missed anyone in my thank-you replies. Tomorrow I'm going to see what's available on interlibrary loan. My original question: "I have a teacher who is seeking a Christmas story, possible based on a German legend, about a spider whose beautiful webs became decorations (possibly tinsel) for a Christmas tree. She does not think the story is "Spider's Christmas Gift," which is the only book I could find in a quick search." Here are the replies. This seems like a very popular legend! Cobweb Christmas: The Tradition of Tinsel, by Shirley Climo. (suggested 30 times) The Christmas Cobwebs by Odds Bodkin (suggested many times, too.) Cobweb Curtain by Jenny Koralek Allie the Christmas Spider / Shirley Menendez Legend of the Christmas Spider / Julie Puntch The Christmas Spider / Lorettz Holz Sophie's Masterpiece: a Spider's Tale / Eileen Spinelli one of the tales in: Hark! A Christmas Sampler / by Jane Yolen One librarian told me uses this tale for storytelling, and has it written on a little slip of paper. Another reply pointed me to this website: http://www.kraftmstr.com/christmas/books/spider.html, which tells that the story of the spider is told in Germany and the Ukraine. I just love LM_Net. I heard from Michigan, New Hampshire, Kansas, Illinois, Texas (4 replies--you are generous folks) Tennessee, Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, Massachusetts, Delaware, Nebraska, Alabama, Arizona, Oklahoma, South Dakota, South Carolina... -- Anne-Marie Gordon, NBCT Library Media Specialist Livonia Primary Library Livonia, NY agordon@livoniacsd.org media.teatime@googlemail.com Resources wiki: squareone.pbwiki.com Webpage: http://classrooms.livoniacsd.org/agordon/ Blog: repurpose.edublogs.org -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
