I do see the importance of this discussion for the school librarian. There are laws on the books requiring schools to teach cyber safety. This task is often relegated to the librarian. The Broadband Data Improvement Act (S.1492), sponsored by Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Daniel Inouye, D-Hawaii, requires the Federal Trade Commission to carry out a national public awareness program focused on educating children how to use the Internet in safe and responsible ways. The legislation also establishes an "Online Safety and Technology Working Group" charged with evaluating online safety education efforts, parental control technologies, filtering and blocking software, and more. http://www.eschoolnews.com/news/top-news/index.cfm?i=55557 Jo Josephine Dervan, MLS -Online Instructor School of Education, University of Wisconsin-Stout dervan at optonline.net dervanj@uwstout.edu He who has a library and a garden, wants for nothing- Cicero -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
