[LM_NET] expressive reading

My 7th and 8th grade literature teachers are starting a unit on expressive reading. 
 They are looking for a stack of resources.  I have plenty of poem books.  What 
children's stories would make good stories for expressive readings?  I thought of 
The Giving Tree by Silverstein.  Any suggestions would be most helpful?
