My original question.....
Does anyone use wikispaces so that students can write book reviews and post info. I
would like to know how you do this. Do you give them your username? Invite them by
emai? Anyone willing to share their address so I can look at their wiki.

I am torn. I didn't get many examples to view (thanks to those who responded) but I
did get some good suggestions etc. I set up a wiki and a blog. I am doing this with
a small group of challenge lit kids right now so I have the freedom to try both. I
started with the blog. I set up 8 generic emails through gmail and assigned them to
my students. (I didnt want my students personal emails to show online, thats where
this gets difficult) They are then going to use those to post answers to questions
on the blog about books they read. We just started yesterday. I hope to advance
this idea and do book reviews, discussion etc. I am new to this so be kind if you
check out my sites. Here is what I set up. (Haven t done much with the wiki yet)

THE HIT:
I have a wiki that was originally intended for student reviews but when I started
it I was launching a brand new library in a charter and could never get my
computers up and running (had no time to mess with them!)

It's still up and I still add to it periodically but I am not teaching right now so
it's never been used by the students for whom it was intended

I use a blog instead, but I hope you share the examples you find of
book review wikis with the group as a HIT. I'd love to see them. My
student book review blog is at http://hamlib.edublogs.org/.

We are actually working on a wiki with 2 fourth grade classes right now on the book
Coraline by Neil Gaiman. You can check it out by going to
http://ces4lit.wikispaces.com.
I created the page under my username so I could be in control of what goes on
there. I then created a generic login using a generic email account that I
created. We plan on using wikis a lot, so the email account will come in handy. I
then asked to join as the generic login, and as myself permitted it. Every kid
uses the same login and password to get onto the wiki. As long as they are not
working on the same page, it works out fine.

I would rather use a blog for book reviews. You would have to have the
wiki/blog open/public for anyone to add, but have the function that all
comments have your approval before publishing.

I started my wiki the other year ago. I used it with my little book club and it
didn't have time to take off before I had to go- my job was eliminated. But I had
generic usernames-- I created them and Wikispaces let me run with it. I haven't
found the usernames and passwords since I've been back (they reinstated the
position!), but the website is lmsbookclub.wikispaces.com. I can set up some more
and we can share if you'd like.. maybe if we could get multiple schools going on
one wiki, it would really take off in the discussion boards and so forth...
