Hello. This is an unusual query, but at my 7-8 grade middle school, some students are checking out the Maus books by Art Spiegelman to copy the swastika on the cover and use other art in the books to make art. My asst. principal came to talk to me about it today and I said I would do some research and ask all of you for suggestions about how to deal with this. I don't want to single the students out but also want to think of a way for them to understand what Art Spiegelman was saying in the books. The students who are borrowing the books are, I feel almost certain, not reading them, but using them for the art and some even believe the "Holocaust doubters." Why waste an opportunity to possibly open some eyes, in other words. Or by addressing it, am I making it too big a deal. Thanks for any thoughts.
