Gary D. Schmidt crafts some of the most brilliant descriptive language
in his books. I am most familiar with Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster
Boy, but all of his books are deep. You can almost open a page at
random in Lizzie Bright and find some amazing descriptive passages. My
classes picked scenes to illustrate and we scanned them into an Imovie
to create a book trailer.

Subject: [LM_NET] YA Authors that use a lot of imagery

Hello All~
I'm working with a 6th grade ELA teacher on a figurative/descriptive
language unit. We're choosing about 5-6 books, and having the kids
read a
passage/section and draw what they imagine the scene will look like.
We're going to display the books and the pictures in the library. I'd
like to turn it into an author study as well, and highlight other works
by
that author.

Yesterday we just kind of browsed the shelves and picked books off the
shelves at random. I then tried doing a search on authors that use
extensive imagery in their works (but came up short). We're trying to
stay away from books that are popular (ie Harry Potter, etc) and books
that have been made into movies. Can anyone think of any books/authors
that use great imagery (for a 6th grade level)?

Thanks in advance!
Rachel
