[LM_NET] TAR: Writing Using Similes and Metaphores -- Collaborative Project Ideas

 A fifth grade teacher just sent me this request:
 

        My homeroom is working on writing with similes and metaphors.
Do you have any ideas for a collaboration project that gives students
experience and practice with these two writing techniques?  I was
wondering if we could work in some lessons on this topic over the next
couple of weeks.  

 
As I begin to gather ideas that I can present to the teacher, I would
really value any suggestions or input this wonderful group may have.
Please let me know any literature connections or lesson plan ideas that
you have used with success.
