Original message: While attending a meeting last Wednesday, my media center once again flooded, due to heavy rains. This was the worse ever- reaching past the circulation desk. I returned to school the next day and found 4 of my sections of book cases up on 2x4's and fans blowing all around - smelled w-o-n-d-e-r-f-u-l. Enough dry, so spread baking soda everywhere. Still drying out on Friday, however, teachers couldn't understand why students couldn't come check out books. Monday morning, am busy vacuuming up baking soda, when announcement comes that we were going to stagger having students come to the media center to check out books, so as not to overwhelm us. Yesterday had a special program in the media center all day - no book checkout. Meanwhile powers-that-be have decided that it would be a good idea to replace the carpet over Christmas. Am told that everything has to be out of the media center by this Friday (giggles slightly hysterically). Am told not to worry too much about getting 15,000+ books moved out - book checkout to continue - we can get "some people" together Friday afternoon to pack up the media center (giggles slightly more hysterically). The icing on the cake is, I'm having surgery Friday and won't be there at all - leaving my poor parapro to deal with all of this! (rotfl)Thanks to everyone who sent words of encouragement, I tried to reply individually, but may have missed someone. The good news is - all the books were bagged and marked by Thursday afternoon. Kindergarten teachers, K parapros and 2nd grade teachers were asked to come bag during their planning period. Got a lot of the books moved, I moved all my computers out, and things looked good when I left on Thursday. So my parapro & sub just had to move the rest of the bagged books and a few odds and ends. We'll probably never find some things when we move back in. Carpet is coming on Monday. Surgery went very well and am resting comfortably at home (no pain so far - keep fingers crossed!). I did have one teacher ask me if I was planning on coming in over Christmas break to move things back in. Ha, ha, ha. Have a Merry Christmas!
