I always enjoy Frederick's reviews and I thank him for them.

This one by Australian author Andy Griffiths, is knows here as The Day My Bum went
Psycho (it's just
the language difference) and it has three companions, 'Zombie Bums from Uranus',
"Bumageddon, the
final pongflict' and 'What Bumosaur is that?'.

Andy is a very popular author here, particularly with boys of 8-11 years ( grade
3-5) because his
short stories and bathroom humour seem to appeal to that age group. Interesting to
read from
Frederick's review that they still have a Grade 8 audience.

While they may not have conventional literary merit, 'Psycho' did win the Young
Australia Readers
Award which is a children's-choice award for Australian books in their year of
publication. They
are funny, and kept boys who would perhaps not read, reading. As with his "Just"
series, I could not
keep them on the shelves. When I looked at the borrowing stats of the library I
was in, there was a
huge upsurge in boys' borrowing when they discovered authors like Griffiths,
Jennings, Milne and a
host of others who recognised what this age group liked and catered for it.

Thank you Frederick, for your great reviews over the year - I look forward to them.

Happy holidays everyone.
