I am doing my winter/spring reading program a little differently. The classroom teachers are doing Book It or similar reading programs already. I've found that my programs are just duplicating prizes for the students that participate. I would like to encourage students to read a variety of information. My program is Reading, Your Passport to the World. The students will have their own passport. The pages of the passport will have different requirements. When the student meets the requirement for a page, a stamp will be placed on the page. I am thinking of giving a small trinket prize for each stamp. Then maybe a larger prize after completing several pages. Some of the pages may have requirements that the student has to do as well. It could be a book review or tell someone about your book, or make something that pertains to the book. I really like where I am going with this, but I am stumbling on the page requirements. There is obviously the various genres, non-fiction (perhaps broken down by Dewey sections), chapter books, magazines, picture books, almanac. Some could be to blog about the book they are reading, read aloud to someone else. I would like to do this school wide, but I could pick and choose what pages go in the passports for the different grades. I'd like to get something decided for my parent volunteers to make the passports when we start up next week. Any ideas out there?
