My original query:
I am doing a lesson (actually to leave for a sub) relating to Valentine's Day,
specifically chocolate. Students will read about how chocolate is made and watch a
video on how chocolate bars are made, and be exposed to some fiction stories that
relate to chocolate. I would like to share with them some interesting facts about
chocolate related to Valentine's Day. For example: How many pounds of chocolate
did Americans purchase/consume last year for VD? Which state produces the most
chocolate candy? and so forth. I'd appreciate any help in finding a website that
includes this information. My searches haven't given me much to go on.
I tried to thank everyone. If I missed you, I apologize.

Chocolate, flowers and cards still reign as the most popular Valentine's
Day gifts. Chocolate is probably the most popular. The National
Confectioners Association says over $1 billion chocolate and sweets are
sold each Valentine's Day. Men, on average, spend about $85 more then
women on their Valentine's Day gifts.

Or how about knowing that Robert Kimmel Smith and James Howe are both
lovers of chocolate. AND that chocolate if given to dogs (and
rabbits) is very harmful -- a fact that Howe uses in his Bunnicula
books.

And for sure don't miss the The Chocolate Touch.

Pennsylvania is home to both Nestles and Hershey's chocolate so I
would bet they produce the most chocolate hands down. However, just
recently Hershey took many of the production of their chocolate to
Mexico so who really knows. :>) The people in Hershey PA were very
upset with the loss of jobs etc.
