Greetings - I made my first stab at constructing a Wiki today, and I'm hoping you can help me out with it. The Wiki is called 1-2-3-JOBS -- <http://1-2-3-jobs.wikispaces.com/> http://1-2-3-jobs.wikispaces.com/. Yes, it has something to do with jobs, specifically jobs for School Library Media Specialists. Over the past several months of looking for a new position for the fall, I realized that the known online job boards (and believe me, I've been to most of them) specialize in one field of librarianship or another. Academic, medical, special, public, etc., but that I have seen, there is no board that focuses on jobs for school library media specialists. Typically, our positions are found on education boards (like SchoolSpring.com that categorizes us as support staff), newspaper want ads, on some state library boards, and occasionally on a random, eclectically-oriented board. What I'm hoping is that peer-to-peer, friend-to-friend, school library media specialists across the country will post notices of open positions for each other on the Wiki. You may not be looking for a new job - or maybe you are - but there are people out there who are, and if you're not, you have no idea how difficult it is these days. Some people are looking for a new job because they are moving, some just finished their MLS and want to move to ___, others are starting a degree program at the Univ. of ____ with a concentration that would fit perfectly in the ____ school, and still others just want a change but have no way to learn what's open in the area. I'm sure you get the idea. Most of the time it's not all that difficult to learn about jobs within driving distance. Most of the time. Beyond that, however, it can be next to impossible. I have gone so far as to target several towns in particular area of the state and bookmark the HR department's webpage for the school districts in those towns. Hence the birth of 1-2-3-JOBS. I hope you'll check out the Wiki, send me critiques, post open positions, and spread the word. I thank you in advance because your help will be much appreciated.
