This school year I have been working with the students teaching them about a
new genre each month. For the month of February, I have four weeks of
biography booths planned. I have volunteers coming in to "man" the booth
and share with students the focus of their booth. The first week will be
U.S. Presidents (divided by time period), the second and fourth week will be
African American figures from history (grouped by Sports; Literature, Music,
and Theatre; Famous African American before 1800; and Famous African
Americans 1800's - 2008. The third week focus will be on famous American:
sports figures; authors, actors, musicians; explorers and scientists /
inventors.

My question to LM_Net group is this: could you please send any ideas you
may have about quick activities students could complete as they visit the
booths on the topics listed above. For presidents we have a grandmother
(retired librarian) dressing as Martha Washington and she plans on showing
the students how to cut the stars for the American flag like Betsy Ross did,
sharing tid-bits about George Washington and showing the students the
biographies we have from that time period.

Teddy Roosevelt will be featured in another booth and this mom will be
telling students about our National Parks. Students will be given a map of
the US and they will put stars on some of the parks she will discuss. Of
course a teddy bear will be her partner in the booth.

For Abraham Lincoln, a mom is bringing Lincoln logs and sharing details
about Mr. Lincoln's hat.

Students will have about ten minutes at each booth. Activities need to be
inexpensive because we have 915 students.

Thank you for considering this request. This is my first time to actually
post on LM_Net. I've been absorbing information for about three years and
have witnessed the wonders of such powerful support.
