Even if we do not consider something sacred ourselves, we should consider the beliefs of others with respect. Even saying you would rip up and throw away the Koran would enrage a person of the Muslim faith, and why would we want to do that? Our Christian culture may say we should not worship paper, but if others see a book as sacred, we should respect that for their sake. Our culture says that to even use the name of our God in vain is a sin, so it hurts us to hear it used as a curse word. People who are not Christians often do not do this in front of us just out respect. We do not want to insult each other in anyway, no matter our faith. In fact, common courtesy may be one thing most of our religions have in common.Kim Thames Media Specialist Norcross, GAbooklady74@hotmail.com> Date: Fri, 1 Feb 2008 11:59:22 -0500> From: acuseo@BKHS.ORG> Subject: Re: Bible and Koran> To: LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU> > My way is to throw it in the trash - after I rip it up slightly.I do know there are guidelines on the Koran - such as Muslims prefer it not be on lower shelves..I always feel guilty when I discard broken crucifixes, Bibles, etc. --- but then we would be worshiping cardboard and paper or plaster - so out they go.AllanDr. Allan O'Grady Cuseo, MGCDirector of Library ServicesBishop Kearney High School | A Golisano Education Partner125 Kings Highway SouthRochester, New York 14617585.342.4000 x231585.342.4694 (fax)www.bkhs.orgCollege Prep.
