The new library coordinator for our school district wants to help librarians
improve the age of our collections by encouraging weeding. Looking at my
Follett Titlewise report, I noticed that several of the oldest books in my
library are Bibles, and I wondered about the original copyright date of a
book versus its publication/reissue date. Which do YOU use in looking at
collection age? Obviously any publication date for the Bible, Koran and
other seminal religious works is very relative...

One of our librarians said, "Mine is a new library, all of my books are
new - but I'm sure she had some Dr. Seuss, Beatrix Potter, etc. The same
issue arises, original publication date vs date of reprints.

Thanks for your thoughts.
