Hi, I am interested in compiling information on when students at the middle/junior high or high school level have opportunities to visit the library to select books for recreational reading. With the elimination of homeroom period in my building, students are increasingly using Silent Reading time as a time to go to the library, not necessarily to select books but to socialize. I'm hoping to get Silent Reading time back to its original purpose, if possible. I would greatly appreciate your assistance in answering the following questions: Do teachers schedule time to bring classes to the library for book selection? If so, is it on a regular basis? Is it just the L/A or English teacher? Do you have an SSR or DEAR time? If so, is it used exclusively for silent reading or is it a time for students to visit the library? get assistance or conference with teachers? other? Is the library open before or after school? Thanks in advance for your help.
