Launched at its annual conference in October, AASL's new standards are not our mother's information skills objectives. [ http://www.ala.org/ala/aasl/aaslproftools/learningstandards/standards.cfm ]http://www.ala.org/ala/aasl/aaslproftools/learningstandards/standards.cfm These sophisticated standards will help ensure that our students enter college and the workplace with the skills and attitudes to succeed. Interpreting a few of the standards may prove somewhat of a challenge. Let's work together to suggest explanations, strategies, links, tools, and anything else to help us integrate the standards into our students' course of study and extracurricular lives. I have set up a wiki so that we can do just that. Study the standards and see what you can add to help others connect and use them successfully. The wiki is available [ http://21stcenturylearner.pbwiki.com/ ]http://21stcenturylearner.pbwiki.com/ (If you are editing, the password is learner. Also, you you may need to click on the sidebar tab to see all the standards links). Twenty six librarians at the Hill Country Librarian's Conference in Austin worked during a very short session to offer some suggestions. Other library media specialists are already adding ideas. It may also be fun if we get together in groups to work on it during the summer or conferences/meetings. Of course, you can work on it in the privacy of your own home in your PJs, also! I think among us we can make a full brain on this thing! :) Thank you, Barb Barbara A.
