[LM_NET] HIT(sort of): Author purpose/main idea

My original request, which was lesson ideas for teaching author purpose and main 
idea to 6th graders, produced one suggestion, which is listed below.  However, I 
had many requests to post a hit, so I know there's a strong interest in this.  If 
anyone does have some ideas, feel free to email me and I'll post another hit.

In an ESL teachers' workshop I attended in a past life, the presenter taught main 
idea by using the fingers of the hand:  Who (thumb)?  Did what (index)? When 
(middle)? Where (ring)? Why (pinkie)? and had us singing, "You've got the main idea 
in your hand..."  (Whole World In His Hands).
