Every March for March is Reading Month we have fun dress up day. In the past they
have been okay, but nothing that really promotes reading. I have found a few in the
archives, which I have included below. Do any of you have other ideas? I want to
promote reading and make it fun. It can be simple or thought provoking - I'm game.

Thanks for your ideas and I will post a hit.

I forgot in the first message to include the examples:
. One year we focused on just dressing in a specific color each day: Monday—wear
red "Reading is RED Hot!", Tues--wear Orange "Orange you glad you can read!" Wed.
--wear blue "Don't be blue, read a book" Thurs--wear purple (can't remember the
slogan, sorry) and Friday we wore school colors and used a slogan such as "Leaders
are Readers--Go Lions!!" I went to the class rooms and gave stickers or
bookmarkers to those who participated.
Teachers' Favorite Day - each teacher will read his or her favorite children's
book. All kids get a tootsie roll - Give your brain a sweet treat, read. Hats Off
to Reading Day - wear a cap or hat. Kids get a tootsie pop - Pop into the library
for a good book.
All-Star Reading Day - wear a jersey or shirt from favorite team. Kids get a
peppermint - Reading is cool!
Exercise Your Brain Day - wear warm ups, jogging suits, or workout clothes.
I am also having a pajama party from 5-6 pm one evening-read bedtime stories &
serve milk & cookies.
"Sock it to me...READ - wear crazy socks to school"
Cat in the hat hats Friday. They took a cheap paper plate and cut the center out
so it looked like a donut. Then they stuck white paper up through the center and
glued it in a circle, then added a strip of red, then white, then red, then on the
top put the cut out part of the paper plate for the top of the hat.
Wacky Wednesday (kids wear two different shoes or clothes backwards)
Thursday-Crazy hat day--Cat in the Hat hats or a wacky hat.
Friday- One, Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish--Everyone wears red or blue that
day.
The Foot Book Day - Students may wear two different shoes to school

I am not really interested in the favorite character dress-up day, because we do a
vocabulary parade instead.

Thanks,
