Hi all, Hoping to get some feedback on some cataloging issues that we are currently addressing in my district of 10 elementary libraries and 6 secondary (middle and high school) libraries. Also, I am most interested in your answers to the first question, so any elaboration here is particularly welcomed! And if you're short on time, feel free to only answer the first question. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply here...a bit lengthy, I know! 1. Does your library share records with other libraries in your district through a union catalog? If so, do all of the participating libraries strictly follow the same set of cataloging guidelines? And do all of the participating libraries adhere to one set of subject headings (Sears or LOC)? 2. Do you use subject headings from (a) Sears (b) LOC (c) combination of (a) and (b) 3. How are subject headings created in your catalog? (a) electronic records are imported and copied directly from existing records at other libraries (b) electronic records are imported using cataloging software (MARC Magician or other similar) (c) subject headings are selected and input manually by librarian or other person responsible for cataloging (d) combination of above methods (please specify which ones) 4. Who is responsible for creating your library records? (a) librarian handles all of the cataloging (b) paraprofessional/aide handles all of the cataloging (c) combination of (a) and (b) Lisa Lopez-Carickhoff Librarian Fern Hill Elem.
