We were approved for an Information Literacy and Technology Course in the 9th grade rotation for next year. Research projects have been dropping like flies around here so we are excited to be able to teach these skills to every freshman. It is a quarterly course, however, we are also switching to block scheduling next year. Now a 45 day class is twice as long in school but half as long out of school. We had hoped to do a short paper but a 20 day class doesn't allow much time for that and all the instruction we want to cover about the research process, internet safety, copyright/plagiarism, etc. Our theme is true crime/court cases. Each kid will have a famous historical case to research. We are kicking around the idea of a one page paper/newspaper article type of project at the end. We want to focus more on the process rather than the product and were thinking of doing a research journal throughout the course. Has anyone ever done research journals? We would probably give them worksheets or writing prompts. Any advice? -- Stephanie Sweeney Librarian Eastern Lancaster County School District Garden Spot School 669 E.
