6th grade level assessment now available from TRAILS (Tool for Real-Time
Assessment of Information Literacy Skills)

The TRAILS Project Team is pleased to announce that information literacy
assessments based on 6th grade standards are now available for your use.

Two parallel assessments of 25 items each address the five TRAILS
information literacy categories. These have been incorporated into the
TRAILS site which offers similar assessments based on 9th grade
standards.

TRAILS is freely available on the Web at http://www.trails-9.org.

Library media specialists serving as consultants to the TRAILS-6 project
wrote the items. Our thanks to them and their colleagues in over 100
schools nationwide who had their students test the items for us this
past fall. The data from those nearly 7,500 students were used to
further refine the items.

TRAILS is a project of the Institute for Library and Information
Literacy Education (ILILE <http://ilile.org/> ) at Kent State University
and has been sponsored by grants from the Institute of Museum and
Library Services (IMLS) and the U.S. Department of Education.

Cheers, The TRAILS Project Team
