If you haven't read Paul Zelinsky's book of Rapunzel and are planning on using it
with a class, I want you to be aware that the witch discover's Rapunzel's
"expanding waistline" and is, needless to say, quite mad about it. I did not
realize that detail was in the book, and was thinking about reading it to my class
because of the beautiful pictures (Caldecott winner or honor). Thank heavens I
read it to myself first. I use a different version to share with my kids.
This is not to be critical of the book at all. I never even once thought about
removing it from my collection, and would fight it if someone suggested it. I'm
just glad I read through it first so I wasn't blind-sided, and am trying to prevent
it happening to anyone else.
