I've been a very active member of bookcrossing for several years now. The point of
it is really not a book swap, but more releasing books into the wild. I have left
books for others to find in Milwaukee, WI that have made their way to New Zealand,
Iraq, Sweden, Canada, and England as well as travelling all over the US. The
originators were sitting around one day thinking about what they could do to make
the world a better place. The idea came from the Where's George website, only here
you register the book on the website, label it, and then leave it for someone to
find. One of the taglines is "Turning the entire world into a library".This is
world wide and has forums where you can talk to people from all over the world.
One of my favorite quotes from bookcrossing is:

"If a 20 something gay Pagan/Wiccan and a 50 year old straight Baptist can be
friends, there is hope for all the world, don't you think?" - Texaswren to N8an,
12/03

I also have an Official BookCrossing Zone (OBCZ) set up in our school library.
The kids all know that if a book has a little running book on the spine, it is a
travelling book that they are free to take with them. If anyone would like some
more information on this, I would be happy to supply it!1
