Hi, I am a fairly new LMS in a K-8 school, trying to create a library curriculum where there is none! I am currently trying to create a unit for 6th graders using picture books. I have something called Suggestions for Evaluating a Novel which is essentially a checklist of points that a good novel may have, or a poor novel may have. I have an idea to give the students Caldecott winners to read and evaluate, and then give them some other picture books and have them compare to the Caldecott winners, and evaluate them. My question is has anyone done anything similar to this, and does anyone have a checklist or list of attributes that a "good" picture book might have vs. a "poor" picture book? Many thanks.
