I use Sagebrush Spectrum (v5.3) and purchase many of my materials from
Follett, using their marc records. I began to notice problems in
searching series. I finally traced it to the fact that it appears that
Follett is putting the series title in the 490 tag rather than the 440
tag, and Spectrum does not search the 490 tag. Spectrum support told me
that editing the file that tells the program which tags to search would
have to be done on each workstation as well as the server. My other
option is to go in and edit each record in a particular series. I've
already done that on some series, but I have a lot of series. Support
also told me that there is no way to do a batch edit. If anyone has any
brilliant ideas, I'd love to hear them. In the meantime, check to see
if your series are showing up in a keyword search. My aide was very
baffled when she couldn't find the Spiderwick Chronicles. Luckily I
could remember that the author was DiTerlizzi.
