I ordered a book called Black History Month Resource Book from Gale (078761775X)
and found a great idea which I am going to try- have the students make bookmarks
with African- American quotes, they write it on, decorate (I have a lot of stamps
and pads, plus a basket of art supplies) and then laminate them.?? I'll try it
during lunch, we are open and some students like to do art instead of reading..I
have been googling to print out lists of good quotes.? I have had good results with
lunch literary-art activities for Christmas.

Subject: Ideas for Black History Month

What are you doing for Black History Month? We are putting up a Black Authors
display in the library and a tribute
(http://library.lhs.usd497.org/2008%20Black%20American%20Month.html)
is going up on the library web page. I feel everything is dull and not very
imaginative. I want a display that will create excitement and a thirst for
information. Where is my creativity? Maybe it is because we are doing
inventory to get ready to update our Follett system. If you have suggestions
that will add some "zip" to the celebration that is fast and easy, please send
it my way. February 1 is Friday.
