Dear Library People! If you subscribe to Ceramics Monthly you'll find the Feb. issue has an artistic but odd platter containing funny-shaped scoops or utensils portrayed in a gorgeous reproduction, but the caption reads, "Heather Mae Erickson designs for ambiguous function." This caused me to consider a comparison of our job to this artist's vision! I'm referring to the amount of DESIGN or the planning it takes to make a library run. (And we make its running look easy like a great ice skater does balancing on one blade at high velocity.) With all of the time spent on "design," our efforts are seemingly of a very ambiguous function! Great library users understand and appreciate what we do, but so many people will never know or appreciate the day to day hard work, exacting attention to detail, and devotion to patrons that we accomplish. Just a thought... Saranne ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ S. Gans, Librarian Cistercian Prep School - boys, grades 5-12 3660 Cistercian Road Irving, TX 75039 (Dallas-Ft.
