Thanks for the comments. As I said in the original post it sounded too good
to be true.

HIT: What can you tell me about this company? Library World

We are using this automation system this year at Lorena ISD. Yes, it almost
is too good to be true. Library World is the new name for CASPR, if you are
familiar with them. We had used CASPR for nearly 10 years and had been
fairly content with them, but wanted an online catalog for our students and
faculty. We checked into Alexandria and Follett Destiny, but both were far
out of our price range, so we decided to try LibraryWorld online. This is a
bare bones program but really pretty amazing for the price. There are
several irritating things it does not do, but we are supposed to get an
upgrade sometime in the next few weeks. After that comes, we will
re-evaluate our commitment to them. We can always go back to the desktop
version if necessary, until we can scrape together the money for a better
system. Bottom line, we were willing to put up with some inconveniences for
the incredible price. And all the records are kept on their servers, so our
tech department was delighted with that.

FYI, most of the inconvenient things about this program have to do
with circulation. The catalog, adding new records, etc. works great. We
have had almost no trouble with it this year. You just have to get used to
what it doesn't do (yet). I think they will continue to upgrade the
program, so it will get better all the time, if schools are willing to be
patient.

We have Library World, and I have no big complaints. That said, it is the
only thing I know. I have heard that there are other programs that are more
elegant. Also, I have never had to call LW tech support, but I heard that it
leaves a little to be desired. All I can say is that it does what I need it
to do.

I need to modify my former reply. I am using the network version, not the
Web based one. Sorry.

I teach an automation course with LibraryWorld. It is a passable, though not
fully featured, automation system housed on their server. You can get a 30
day free trial to see for yourself. It's probably better for a small church
library than a busy school, however. It has some quirks, like it allows 1
grace day before fines are calculated, and that isn't adjustable. Holds are
a little odd, too. The book must be in before you can place a hold. But the
Z39.50 client is nice, and its fast to set up for novices.

We have it in Killeen ISD. All I can say after using Follett Destiny is that
you get what you pay for.

It was in my library when I started in 2005. Last summer I switched to
Follett's Destiny. I had previously automated a K-8 library with Follett's
Circ/Cat & loved it. Library World was not very user friendly (in my
opinion) and I couldn't ever find answers for what I needed in the manual.

Good morning,

All I can say, is RUN! LibraryWorld is a dinosaur! I've used a number

of automation programs during my career and this is by far the worst!

We are currently using Library World Gold 3.2 and it is nothing more than an
old DOS database. You can not access information from different modules
without "clicking" out of one into another (which means you must copy/paste
information). Good luck.
