I got so many additional responses that I decided to post a second
hit, just including those.

ORIGINAL REQUEST:

I'm wanting to create a short list of middle grade books (especially
for boys) with a lot of ACTION, especially if the main character is
being CHASED by someone who wants to do him harm . If they are
historical, all the better, but contemporary is fine too. Ideas?

RESPONSES:Crispin: The Cross of Lead by Avi definitely fits your
criteria. The 7th grade boys like the Artemis Fowl books by Eoin
Colfer and the Alex Rider series by Anthony Horowitz as well. They
LOVE Percy Jackson and the Olympian's Series by Rick Riordan also.
***
Take a look at SON OF THE MOB (Korman) and also THE WRECKERS and THE
SMUGGLERS by John Lawrence
***
TA Barron's books often have chase scenes and always lots of
action. My fourth and fifth graders love them, especially the boys.
***
On the Run series and its sequel series by Korman, James Patterson's
Maximum Ride series, Alex Rider series (Horowitz).
***
The book, Citizen of The Galaxy by Robert Heinlein has a lot of
action and at least one scene where the teenage boy is being chased
by people that intend to kill him.

I just read your newest post on LM_Net; can't believe I forgot to
mention Blue Balliett's books. They are perfect because it's a
mystery and adventure and a "bad guy" is after the kids. There are
three of them so far. My favorite's Wright 3.
I'd agree with the others, but the Rick Riordan ones are really more
action, although there certainly are "chase scenes" in them.

The series I should have mentioned--and it wasn't in your list--is
the Young James Bond series by Higdon. The first one is called Silverfin.

***
Hi. Do you have The Extraordinary Adventures of Alfred Kropp and
Alfred Kropp:The Seal of Solomon both by Rick Yancey? Also, the
Maximum Ride series by James Patterson and all the Anthony Horowitz
adventures.
***
The Alex Ryder series by Anthony Horowitz--lots of action--Alex is a
15 year old spy--someone is always chasing him

***
Zach's Lie and Jack's Run both by Roland Smith
***
Chase by Jessie Haas
