We're a Mac-based school, so use iMovie (the old HD version, NOT the 08
version, which Apple gutted for some reason). It's certainly more
versatile and a bit more powerful than MovieMaker, but that won't be much
help if you don't have access to Macs.

Jumpcut is an easy (and free!) online tool that allows basic,
collaborative editing. I have my students use it when they're working on
editing a project from home.  It ends the "we can't get together" excuse!

As to RSS feeds, I had my faculty set up Google accounts and showed them
Google Reader.  Hadn't really thought about using Firefox for that. Does
it just go to your email?  I'm not sure I'd want even MORE clutter there!
